This section of Effaire Tech website is a portfolio of some of the CAD work I perform as well as it serves as a tool to manage the project that I am working on. To start, check the left tree and click on the highlighted 'Frame-(FR)' for a quick overview. For a quicker overview, click here.

RC Car

The overall project is to make a RC Car from scratch using as much as possible the Fused Deposition Modeling (3D printing) process, limiting the use of external parts, and have a look and feel of an actual sized vehicle.

Parts Manager

The goal of the parts manager is to regroup in one single interface all information related to part design. It involves 3 different sources:

3D model (FreeCAD)
Slicer for 3D prints (Cura)
Traditional documentation like spreadsheets, word processor, drawings, etc.

It is based on files generated during the whole design process from 3D design to Cura projects and final printed parts. The documents/files are stored using the classic file system but link metadata from each software to the dedicated part or folder.

Metadata are available in each part folder, stored as JSON files, and give additional information such as:

Estimated cost, print time, etc.
CAD information: volume, surface.

This gathering of information is used to generate documentation programmatically.

General Consideration

The part number is the main key that connect all information. In order to have a harmonized naming, the part number is defined as follow:

[A-Z][A-Z]-[APE]-[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][LRX]

This regular expression defines all combinations possible to generate one unique part number.

Example: SU-P-0123L

SU: product family or root
P: type of element: A = assembly, P = part, E = external part
0123: unique numbering
L: side of the car where used: L = left, R = right, X = universal.

Interface

The website has the same layout, no matter which part you are looking at.

Slicer Settings: summarizes a limited amount of information regarding the slicer parameters.
Documents: shows documents stored in the part number folder.
